Welcome to the Highlights Studio Blog! I am Mike Nykoruk, owner of Highlights Studio. I’m new to blogging, but not to Photography. 25+ years of advertising, commercial and motion picture work has fueled our tanks for those many years.
I’m known for photographing “Real” people (as opposed to professional models) for businesses brochures and ads, keeping it real. I enjoy working with people, helping them relax, be comfortable in front of the camera. It’s the best way to make them look their best.
I was talking with a friend of mine in the next county, that photographs weddings and portraits. He was telling me how busy he was with high school seniors . So I looked at the studios in Oakland County, and found that while some are very good, many are just not at the level that I would want my kid’s pictures to be, even though the prices they were charging for them were substantial.
Now I’m not opposed to paying for quality, but I expect great quality for my money. It’s only reasonable to expect experienced, professional services, when hiring someone to do a job and to do it better then one could do for themselves. With so many Newbies, SMACs (soccer moms and camera, no offense, Mom), Uncle Harrys, hanging a shingle and calling themselves professionals, I saw an opportunity. I decided to take my 25+ years of professional photography experience and design a new studio dedicated to raising the bar in quality and services to the High School Senior Picture market, thus Highlights Studios.
